What Makes a Good Corporate Keynote Speaker?

Relevance to the audience's specific context, original content, and the ability to engage a room without relying on slides as a crutch. Speaking fees are not a reliable signal of quality.

A local subject-matter expert who speaks well is usually more valuable to Alberta corporate audiences than a national celebrity speaker with a generic talk. The celebrity speaker produces a memorable experience — but if the content does not connect to the audience's actual work, the retention and behavior change are minimal.

The questions that reveal whether a speaker is right for your event: 'Have you spoken to this industry or audience type before?' 'Can I see a full-length video of a recent corporate talk?' 'Will you customize the content for our company and context, and how?' Speakers who cannot show you a full-length video or who resist customization are higher risk than their credentials suggest.

Common questions

Local professional speakers: $1,500–$5,000 for a 45–60 minute keynote. Nationally recognized speakers with a major credential (book, company, notable position): $5,000–$20,000. International celebrity speakers: $20,000–$100,000+. The fee range is enormous and correlates loosely with audience draw, not with talk quality.
